Statement of Intent.

Updated: Jun 11, 2019

Product one (Music video):

My Music video will be played over the top of the pop dance song ‘No Money’ by Galantis. In this video I am intending on making a semi-emotional but cheery narrative about a boy going through school life. The whole video will be eye line to the main boy character. It will begin with a scene of the boy standing up to his childhood bully that is trying to take him lunch money. “You might knock me down” will trigger scenes of the boy being bullied in flashbacks to his early teen years (age 13/14). The drop of the song will see the boy skip off happy with his friends down the street. Starting in the next verse the bully will walk away reflecting and this will be the end of the video. The whole idea of this is that is takes on a social issue - bullying - but makes strong light of it to not cause any misinterpretations and allow for younger audiences to understand it better. This has been seen in many popular pop music videos, most notably by Taylor Swift. These kind of videos are often targeted at an age range of 16-25 in increasing their awareness of these cultural issues and along with that comes an increase artist reputation.

Product two (Website):

As stated in the brief, I need to make up an artist (of which mine is a group named Blueshift) and provide this artist with website to support their image and link to Social Media’s like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The image I am looking to perceive is a social heavy status that focuses on meeting the demands of on-going society changes. A recent example would be the amazing work that is being done to provide awareness for gay pride. The website will be dark but dynamic and fit around the idea of the name “Blueshift” (my artist name). The colour scheme is black, blue and white with splashes of colour to brighten it up to fit in with the genres being produced (pop and dance) and fit in with the colourful concept of pride. A main light box should appear before entering the website that is welcoming and established what the site is about. Features on the site like the anchor on the right side are simple to use making the site very user friendly. This will provide something that isn’t found on ordinary sites and brings originality to Blueshift. The SHOP section will provide users the ability to purchase merchandise of which is the layout is colour schemed the 6 colours of the pride flag and the merchandise itself is the band colours (black, blue and white). There will be a specific area within the website about bullying awareness. This will include cyber and real life bullying. How to protect yourself from it and how to deal with will be the main aim of the area. The user friendly idea of the website will support the people friendly view of the band itself. There will be pictures of band members meeting with fans to encourage their image to be more friendly and welcoming.

How product one and two link together:

Both the website and music video will be full of colour. Of which a running theme will be noticed. The idea of bullying awareness is addressed in the video as well as the website where tips can be given and questions answered. The idea of the band itself being friendly and welcoming is supported by the video, where the boys friends will be helping him and cheering him up – as a metaphor for the band being there for you through tough situations – and also by the website with the evidence of friendly meet and greets with fans.
